Fiber optic cables already in the ground could become an early warning system for leaking water pipes through a new technology being trialled in Melbourne.

Intelligent Water Networks (IWN) is a body that fuels innovation in the water industry on behalf of its members across the sector. It is funding the trial as part of a consortium that includes FiberSense, who have invented the technology, Greater Western Water, who own the infrastructure, and Veolia.

The Good Design Awards recognize excellence across multiple design disciplines. The judges were particularly impressed with the engineering excellence of DigitalAsset Marine™️, but also “the innovation and design impact” that we brought to our sector, according to Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia.

Standing out from the almost 1000 entries, FiberSense technology has again been recognised for its game changing sensing as a service. The award is a celebration of the transformative power of design to find innovative, customer-centric solutions to local and global challenges.

Our project won out against entries from around the world, evaluated by a panel of over 70 expert jurors. It exemplifies our commitment to innovation and design that has real-world impact.

We are pleased to announce a partnership with New Zealand’s geoscience authority GNS Science, Te Pū Ao (GNS) to evaluate FiberSense’s world leading sensing solution to monitor and detect seismic activity in and around Wellington City.

The 12-month commercial pilot will provide GNS scientists with access to the unique FiberSense DigitalSeismic™ data stream.

GNS, through its GeoNet programme, will work with FiberSense technical experts on the data collection and processing tools to assess the DigitalSeismic™ technology.

FiberSense is proud to contribute our innovative sensing solution to a joint initiative with nbn to monitor and prevent accidental damage to the nbn fibre cable network.

In a three-month trial, nbn will use FiberSense DigitalAsset®️ to detect certain vibrational frequencies on fibre and link that data with artificial intelligence to determine whether the events detected are likely to lead to damage to the network. This would include the impact from excavation or other unauthorised digging activity near nbn’s fibre optic cables.
